Slade made his [first-class](/source/first-class_cricket) debut for [Glamorgan](/source/Glamorgan_County_Cricket_Club) in the [1961 County Championship](/source/1961_County_Championship) against [Hampshire](/source/Hampshire_County_Cricket_Club) at [St. Helen's, Swansea](/source/St._Helen's_Rugby_and_Cricket_Ground). Slade later [captained](/source/captain_(cricket)) [Wales](/source/Wales_cricket_team) in the [1979 ICC Trophy](/source/1979_ICC_Trophy) against the [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands_national_cricket_team), [Israel](/source/Israel_national_cricket_team) and the [United States](/source/United_States_national_cricket_team).<ref>{{cite web |url-access=subscription  |url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/4/4642/ICC_Trophy_Matches.html|title=ICC Trophy Matches played by Billy Slade|publisher=CricketArchive|accessdate=27 October 2012}}</ref> Wales failed to progress from their group in the tournament, although they were not eligible for qualification for the [1979 World Cup](/source/1979_Cricket_World_Cup) even if they had won the event. 

Slade coached cricket at [Marlborough College](/source/Marlborough_College), and in a number of other schools and clubs. He also ran a pub in the [Vale of Neath](/source/Vale_of_Neath). He suffered from dementia in his final years.<ref name=":0" />
