# Bill Partington

**William E. Partington III** (born 1968)[1] is an American politician and attorney who currently serves as a [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) member of the [Florida House of Representatives](/source/Florida_House_of_Representatives) representing the [28th district](/source/Florida's_28th_House_of_Representatives_district), which comprises northern parts of [Volusia County](/source/Volusia_County,_Florida), including [Ormond Beach](/source/Ormond_Beach,_Florida) and [Daytona Beach](/source/Daytona_Beach,_Florida).[2][3] He previously served as [Mayor](/source/Mayoralty_in_the_United_States) of [Ormond Beach](/source/Ormond_Beach,_Florida) from 2016 to 2024 and as a member of the [Ormond Beach City Commission](/source/Ormond_Beach_City_Commission) from 2004 to 2016.

## Early life and education

William E. Partington III was born in 1968 in [Daytona Beach, Florida](/source/Daytona_Beach,_Florida).[4] He graduated from [Mainland High School](/source/Mainland_High_School) in 1986. Partington earned an associate degree from [Daytona State College](/source/Daytona_State_College) before receiving his bachelor's in communications from the [University of Central Florida](/source/University_of_Central_Florida). He then went on to graduate from [Loyola University New Orleans](/source/Loyola_University_New_Orleans) with a [Juris Doctor](/source/Juris_Doctor) in 1995.[5]

## Political career

Partington worked as an assistant public defender from 1996 to 2001. He has worked as an assistant state attorney for the [Seventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida](/source/Circuit_court_(Florida)) since 2007.[6]

### Ormond Beach

Partington was elected to the Ormond Beach [Commission](/source/City_commission_government) for Zone 4 in 2004. He was re-elected to six consecutive terms and served as [deputy mayor](/source/Deputy_mayor) during his last three terms.[7] He was elected [mayor](/source/Mayor) of Ormond Beach in June 2016.[6] Partington served four terms as mayor until he retired to run for Florida House in 2024.[8][9] He was succeeded by fellow [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_of_Florida) Jason Leslie.[10]

### Florida House of Representatives

Partington announced his candidacy for [district 28](/source/Florida's_28th_House_of_Representatives_district) for the Florida House of Representatives in March 2023.[11] After winning the August [primary](/source/Primary_election) uncontested, he was elected to the [Florida Legislature](/source/Florida_Legislature) in November [2024](/source/2024_Florida_House_of_Representatives_election).[12][13] He was officially sworn into office on November 19, 2024.[14]

## Personal life

Partington married his wife Lori in 1993. They have three daughters and live in [Ormond Beach, Florida](/source/Ormond_Beach,_Florida).[1][15]
