# Bill Dustin

**William Henry Dustin** (30 August 1909 – 24 September 2001) was a New Zealand [cricketer](/source/Cricket). He played in eleven [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) matches for [Wellington](/source/Wellington_cricket_team) from 1927 to 1944.[1][2]

Dustin and his twin brother were born in [Palmerston North](/source/Palmerston_North) and attended [Wellington College](/source/Wellington_College,_Wellington). Both played senior rugby and cricket in Wellington.[3]

Bill Dustin was a right-handed opening batsman. He had his best season in 1931–32, when he formed an effective opening partnership with [Stewie Dempster](/source/Stewie_Dempster). He scored 186 runs in the [Plunket Shield](/source/Plunket_Shield) in that season, with a top score of 92 in a partnership of 239 with Dempster in the match against [Canterbury](/source/Canterbury_cricket_team),[4] and Wellington won the Shield.[5]

Dustin served in the [Royal New Zealand Air Force](/source/Royal_New_Zealand_Air_Force) in [World War II](/source/World_War_II).[6] In 1942 he was the proprietor of a [guesthouse](/source/Guesthouse) in [Otaki](/source/%C5%8Ctaki,_New_Zealand).[7]
