**Bhola-3** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh).

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Lalmohan](/source/Lalmohan_Upazila) and [Tazumuddin](/source/Tazumuddin_Upazila) upazilas.[1][2]

## History

The constituency was created in 1984 from a Bakerganj constituency when the former [Bakerganj District](/source/Backergunge_District) was split into four districts: [Bhola](/source/Bhola_District), [Bakerganj](/source/Barisal_District), [Jhalokati](/source/Jhalokati_District), and [Pirojpur](/source/Pirojpur_District).

In October 2009, the [Supreme Court](/source/Bangladesh_Supreme_Court%2C_Appellate_Division) upheld a ruling that Major (retired) Jashim Uddin's 2008 candidacy was illegal because he failed to wait the statutory five years after compulsory retirement from government service before running for parliament.[7] The [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) vacated the seat on February 3, 2010.[8] Nurunnabi Chowdhury was elected in the resulting April 2010 by-election.
