**Bhola-1** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh).Since 17 January 2026,the constituency has been represented by [Bangladesh Jatiya Party](/source/Bangladesh_Jatiya_Party) Chairman [Barrister Andaleeve Rahman](/source/Andaleeve_Rahman)

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses the entirety of [Bhola Sadar Upazila](/source/Bhola_Sadar_Upazila), integrating the area within a single administrative and electoral boundary.[1][2]

## History

The constituency was created in 1984 from the Bakerganj-1 constituency when the former [Bakerganj District](/source/Backergunge_District) was split into four districts: [Bhola](/source/Bhola_District), [Bakerganj](/source/Barisal_District), [Jhalokati](/source/Jhalokati_District), and [Pirojpur](/source/Pirojpur_District).

Tofail Ahmed was elected unopposed in the [2014 general election](/source/2014_Bangladeshi_general_election) after opposition parties withdrew their candidacies in a boycott of the election.[5]

### Elections in the 1990s

Tofail Ahmed stood for two seats in the June 1996 general election: Bhola-1 and [Bhola-2](/source/Bhola-2). After winning both, he chose to represent the latter and quit the former, triggering a by-election.[9][10] The [High Court](/source/High_Court_Division), however, stayed the by-election, and the seat remained vacant for the entire tenure of the seventh parliament.[11][10]
