== Education and career ==
Glad graduated from the [University of Utah](/source/University_of_Utah) [magna cum laude](/source/magna_cum_laude) and [Phi Beta Kappa](/source/Phi_Beta_Kappa) with a Bachelors of Science, and went on to receive her PhD from the [University of Chicago](/source/University_of_Chicago) in 1962.<ref name="legacy"/>

She began her teaching career at [Mount Holyoke College](/source/Mt._Holyoke_College) and [Brooklyn College](/source/Brooklyn_College), before becoming the first female Chair of Political Science at the [University of Illinois](/source/University_of_Illinois). She would stay at Illinois until 1989, when she took up a post at the [University of South Carolina](/source/University_of_South_Carolina). Glad was one of the first women to earn a PhD in political science and then teach at a PhD-granting institution.<ref name="legacy"/>

Glad's interests included the areas of [political science](/source/political_science) and [political psychology](/source/political_psychology), and she was honored for her lifelong contributions in both subjects through the "Frank D. Goodnow Award" from the [American Political Science Association](/source/American_Political_Science_Association) and the "Harold Lasswell Award" from the [International Society for Political Psychology](/source/International_Society_for_Political_Psychology).<ref name="PS"/>
