**Lijmberta "Bertha" Aaltje Valkenburg** (1862–1929) was a [Dutch](/source/Dutch_people) artist.[1]

## Biography

Valkenburg was born on 5 January 1862 in [Almelo](/source/Almelo), the daughter of painter [Hendrik Valkenburg](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hendrik_Valkenburg&action=edit&redlink=1) [[nl](https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hendrik_Valkenburg)]. She attended the *[Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten](/source/Rijksakademie_van_beeldende_kunsten)* (State Academy of Fine Arts) and the *Rijksnormaalschool voor Teekenonderwijzers* (National Normal School for Drawing Teachers). She studied with [August Allebé](/source/August_Alleb%C3%A9). In 1910 she married Hendrik Willem Adriaan Krook van Harpen. She was a member of [Arti et Amicitiae](/source/Arti_et_Amicitiae) and *[Genootschap Kunstliefde](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Genootschap_Kunstliefde&action=edit&redlink=1) [[nl](https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genootschap_Kunstliefde)]*.[2]
