# Bernie Meli

**Bernard Meli** (born 22 July 1940) is a former [boxer](/source/Boxing) from Northern Ireland, who competed for Ireland at the [1960 Summer Olympics](/source/1960_Summer_Olympics).[1]

## Biography

At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, he competed in the [men's light welterweight](/source/Boxing_at_the_1960_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Light_welterweight) event.[2]

Meli was selected for the [1962 Northern Irish team](/source/Northern_Ireland_at_the_1962_British_Empire_and_Commonwealth_Games)[3] for the [1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games](/source/1962_British_Empire_and_Commonwealth_Games) in [Perth](/source/Perth), Australia.[4] He competed in the [light-welterweight category](/source/Boxing_at_the_1962_British_Empire_and_Commonwealth_Games),[5] where he lost to [Harvey Reti](/source/Harvey_Reti) of Canada in the quarter-final round.[6]
