# Bernie Mehen

**Bernard Joseph Mehen** (September 19, 1918 – May 11, 2007) was an American professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) player.[1][2] He played in the [National Basketball League](/source/National_Basketball_League_(United_States)) for the [Youngstown Bears](/source/Youngstown_Bears) and [Toledo Jeeps](/source/Toledo_Jeeps) and averaged 6.9 points per game.[1][3] He served in the [Army](/source/United_States_Army) during [World War II](/source/World_War_II) and suffered a foot injury caused by [mortar shell](/source/Mortar_(weapon)).[2] Bernie's younger brother [Dick Mehen](/source/Dick_Mehen) played alongside him at both the [University of Tennessee](/source/University_of_Tennessee) and with the Toledo Jeeps.[2]
