The **Bernesga** is a river in the northwest of the [Iberian Peninsula](/source/Iberian_Peninsula). It is born near the [Puerto de Pajares](/source/Puerto_de_Pajares) in the [Cantabrian Mountains](/source/Cantabrian_Mountains) at around 1,580 metres above mean sea level, running along around 80 km throughout territory of the Spanish [province of León](/source/Province_of_Le%C3%B3n) until discharging into the [Esla](/source/Esla_(river)) near [Vega de Infanzones](/source/Vega_de_Infanzones) and [Palanquinos](/source/Palanquinos).[1] The [N-630](/source/N-630) road connecting [Asturias](/source/Asturias) and the [Meseta Central](/source/Meseta_Central) runs parallel to the river.[2]

Featuring a catchment area of around 1,187.6 km2, it receives contributions from the Camplongo, [Rodiezmo](/source/Rodiezmo), Casares, and [Torío](/source/Tor%C3%ADo), among other tributaries.[3]
