***Bentonyx*** (meaning "Bentons's claw") is an [extinct](/source/Extinct) [genus](/source/Genus) of [rhynchosaur](/source/Rhynchosaur) from the middle [Triassic](/source/Triassic) epoch of [Devon](/source/Devon) in [England](/source/England).[1] Its fossil, a well preserved [skull](/source/Skull), [BRSUG 27200](http://www.3d-fossils.ac.uk/fossilType.cfm?typSampleId=25000781), was discovered in [Otter Sandstone Formation](/source/Otter_Sandstone_Formation) (late [Anisian](/source/Anisian) age) and was first assigned to *[Rhynchosaurus spenceri](/source/Rhynchosaurus)*, that is known from 25 specimens. This species was reassigned to its own genus, *[Fodonyx](/source/Fodonyx)*, that was first described by David W. E. Hone and [Michael Benton](/source/Michael_Benton) in [2008](/source/2008_in_paleontology).[2] More recently, this skull was reassigned to this genus by Max C. Langer, Felipe C. Montefeltro, David E. Hone, Robin Whatley and Cesar L. Schultz in [2010](/source/2010_in_paleontology) and the type species is *Bentonyx sidensis*.[1][3][4]
