# Benjamin Simons

**Benjamin David Simons** is a British [theoretical physicist](/source/Theoretical_physics), working in the field of theoretical [condensed matter physics](/source/Condensed_matter_physics) and in [biophysics](/source/Biophysics).

Simons holds the [Herchel Smith](/source/Herchel_Smith) Chair in Physics at the [University of Cambridge](/source/University_of_Cambridge) [Cavendish Laboratory](/source/Cavendish_Laboratory).[1] In 2013 he became head of the Theory of Condensed Matter (TCM) group in the Cavendish Lab. He is also a Group Leader at the [Cambridge Stem Cell Institute](/source/Cambridge_Stem_Cell_Institute) and the Director of the [Gurdon Institute](/source/Gurdon_Institute) since 2024.[2]

## Biography

Simons has two brothers, Thomas and Joseph. His father is a professor at Oxford University, Professor John P. Simons. He is married and has two children.
