**Benjamin Shreve** (1908–1985) was an [American](/source/American_people) amateur [herpetologist](/source/Herpetologist). He was from a wealthy Boston family of jewellers (partners and managers of [Shreve, Crump & Low](/source/Shreve%2C_Crump_%26_Low)) and worked at the [Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology](/source/Museum_of_Comparative_Zoology) as a volunteer.[1][2] He was trained by [Arthur Loveridge](/source/Arthur_Loveridge) to deal with materials from elsewhere than [Africa](/source/Africa).
