A former member of the [Socialist Party](/source/Socialist_Party_(France)) (PS), Griveaux has frequently been described as one of President [Emmanuel Macron](/source/Emmanuel_Macron)'s closest political allies. He was LREM's candidate for [Mayor of Paris](/source/List_of_mayors_of_Paris) in the [2020 municipal election](/source/2020_Paris_municipal_election) before he withdrew due to a sex scandal and was replaced by [Health Minister](/source/Minister_of_Health_(France)) [Agnès Buzyn](/source/Agn%C3%A8s_Buzyn).

Between 2003 and 2008 Griveaux began working for ''A Gauche en Europe'', a think-tank founded by [Dominique Strauss-Kahn](/source/Dominique_Strauss-Kahn) and directed by [Michel Rocard](/source/Michel_Rocard).
