# Ben Vig

**Benjamin A. Vig** is an American politician from [North Dakota](/source/North_Dakota). He is a former member of the [North Dakota House of Representatives](/source/North_Dakota_House_of_Representatives) and the [Democratic Party](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)) nominee for [lieutenant governor](/source/Lieutenant_Governor_of_North_Dakota) in the [2020 election](/source/2020_North_Dakota_gubernatorial_election).

Vig graduated from [Valley City State University](/source/Valley_City_State_University) in 2005.[1] He defeated [Bill Devlin](/source/Bill_Devlin) in the 2006 elections to represent District 23 in the [North Dakota House of Representatives](/source/North_Dakota_House_of_Representatives). He lost his reelection bid to Devlin in 2010. Vig considered running for seat in the [United States House of Representatives](/source/United_States_House_of_Representatives) in the 2012 election,[2] but opted against it.[3] He ran for the North Dakota House in District 23 again in 2014, but lost.[4]

In the [2020 elections](/source/2020_North_Dakota_gubernatorial_election), [Shelley Lenz](/source/Shelley_Lenz), the Democratic nominee for [governor of North Dakota](/source/Governor_of_North_Dakota), selected Vig as her running mate.[4] Lenz and Vig lost to [Doug Burgum](/source/Doug_Burgum) and [Brent Sanford](/source/Brent_Sanford), who were reelected to their second terms as governor and lieutenant governor, respectively.[5]
