# Ben Jones (halfback)

**Benjamin Franklin Hanser Jones** (March 18, 1899 – May 17, 1929) was a professional [football](/source/American_football) player during the early years of the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL).[1] Jones won an NFL championship with the [Canton Bulldogs](/source/Canton_Bulldogs) in [1923](/source/1923_NFL_season), one with the [Cleveland Bulldogs](/source/Cleveland_Bulldogs) in [1924](/source/1924_NFL_season), and another with the [Frankford Yellow Jackets](/source/Frankford_Yellow_Jackets) in [1926](/source/1926_NFL_season). He finished his career with the [Chicago Cardinals](/source/Chicago_Cardinals_(NFL,_1920%E2%80%9359)) in 1928. Jones died on May 17, 1929, at the age of 30. The cause of death was due to gas inhalation after he was exposed to an explosion at a clinic, located in [Cleveland, Ohio](/source/Cleveland,_Ohio), on May 15, 1929.

According to a front-page article in the *Simpson Times Leader* in [Ford City, Pennsylvania](/source/Ford_City,_Pennsylvania), on May 22, 1929, [Jim Thorpe](/source/Jim_Thorpe), the former [All-American](/source/All-American) football player, attended his funeral. Jones is buried at Woodland Cemetery, located in [Grove City, Pennsylvania](/source/Grove_City,_Pennsylvania).
