The **Belize Act 1981** (c. 52) was an [Act of Parliament](/source/Act_of_Parliament) in the [United Kingdom](/source/United_Kingdom).

The act made provisions for the nation of [Belize](/source/Belize) (formerly [British Honduras](/source/British_Honduras)) to gain full independence and become a member of the [Commonwealth of Nations](/source/Commonwealth_of_Nations) as a [Commonwealth realm](/source/Commonwealth_realm); prior to this, Belize had been a fully self-governing [British colony](/source/British_colony) from 1973.[2]

Belize became independent on 21 September 1981.
