A **Belgian bun** is a [sweet bun](/source/Sweet_roll) containing [sultanas](/source/Sultana_(grape)) and usually topped with glace [icing](/source/Icing_(food)) and half a [glace cherry](/source/Candied_fruit).[1] Some recipes also include [lemon curd](/source/Lemon_curd).[1] There is no fixed recipe, and many bakeries use their own recipes.[2]

The bun is round or square shaped, with rounded off edges, making it similar in appearance to a [Chelsea bun](/source/Chelsea_bun).[1][3] It is also sometimes served with cream.[4]

No firm link has so far been established between the bun and Belgium; however, that country does produce as one of its specialties a very similar viennoiserie (though with less icing) known as a rozijnenkoek or [couque suisse](/source/Couque_suisse).[5][6]

The world's biggest Belgian bun was made to celebrate a new route to [Antwerp](/source/Antwerp) from [London Southend Airport](/source/London_Southend_Airport), weighing a massive 17.1 kg (38 lb) in 2018.[7][8]
