# Beit Hanania

**Beit Hanania** (Hebrew: בֵּית חֲנַנְיָה, *lit.* House of Hanania) is a [moshav](/source/Moshav) in northern [Israel](/source/Israel). Located close to the south edge of [Mount Carmel](/source/Mount_Carmel) close to [Zikhron Ya'akov](/source/Zikhron_Ya'akov), it falls under the jurisdiction of [Hof HaCarmel Regional Council](/source/Hof_HaCarmel_Regional_Council). In it had a population of .

## History

The moshav was founded in 1950 by the [Palestine Jewish Colonization Association](/source/Palestine_Jewish_Colonization_Association) (PICA) and [Jewish immigrants](/source/Aliyah) from Eastern Europe on land that had belonged to the [Palestinian](/source/Palestinians) village of [Kabara](/source/Kabara,_Haifa), which was depopulated in the [1948 Palestine war](/source/1948_Palestine_war).[1] The new village was named after Hanania Gottlib, a leader of the PICA.[2]

The [Israel National Trail](/source/Israel_National_Trail) runs through the moshav. An aqueduct built in [Hadrian](/source/Hadrian)'s time is located at its entrance, whilst the [Taninim River Nature Reserve](/source/Taninim_River_Nature_Reserve) is located nearby. The [Taninim River](/source/Taninim_Stream) flows through the park, both of which are named after the alligators (תנינים, *Taninim*) that, until the beginning of the 20th century, lived in the nearby Cabra swamp.[citation needed]
