This is the [type site](/source/Type_locality_(geology)) for the [Beestonian stage](/source/Beestonian_stage) of the [Early Pleistocene](/source/Early_Pleistocene), between around 1.8 and 0.8 million years ago. It has both marine and freshwater deposits.
