'''BeebEm''' is a [BBC Micro](/source/BBC_Micro) [emulator](/source/emulator), first developed by David Gilbert in 1994 and since improved by a number of people, most notably Mike Wyatt who currently maintains the emulator and its website. Although BeebEm's first incarnations were for [UNIX](/source/UNIX)-based systems, the version for [Windows](/source/Microsoft_Windows) ([98](/source/Windows_98) or later) is now the most popular. BeebEm is also available for [Mac OS X](/source/Mac_OS_X), [Agenda VR3](/source/Agenda_VR3) and [Pocket PC](/source/Pocket_PC).

BeebEm is copyrighted [freeware](/source/freeware), and its [source code](/source/source_code) is distributed with the emulator under the GPL licence.

As of version 4.13 (January 2011), BeebEm for Windows emulates the following hardware:

*[BBC Micro](/source/BBC_Micro) Models B, B+ and [Master 128](/source/BBC_Master)
*[Integra B](/source/Integra_B) expansion board
*Cassette, [DFS](/source/Disc_Filing_System) and [ADFS](/source/Advanced_Disc_Filing_System) filing systems
*[Econet](/source/Econet) networking
*[65C02](/source/WDC_65C02) and [Z80](/source/Zilog_Z80) second processors
*[AMX Mouse](/source/AMX_Mouse)

The TMS5220 Speech Generator emulator was removed from version 4.1 onwards due to licensing issues.<ref>{{Cite web | url=http://www.mkw.me.uk/beebem/CHANGES.txt | title=BeebEm Change History | format=TXT | access-date=2024-05-31}}</ref>

BeebEm can read images from files representing tape (in [UEF](/source/UEF_(file_format)) format), DFS or ADFS discs<!-- sic; not "disks" here-->, ROM cartridges and [SCSI](/source/SCSI) or [SASI](/source/Shugart_Associates_System_Interface) [hard disk](/source/hard_disk)s. <!--yes, with a K this time!--> It is capable of running the vast majority of BBC Micro software, including classics such as ''[Elite](/source/Elite_(video_game))'', ''[Exile](/source/Exile_(1988_video_game))'' and ''[Firetrack](/source/Firetrack)''.

Jon Welch, who maintains the Mac port of BeebEm, has shown a preview of BeebEm (the Windows version) emulating the [Master 512](/source/BBC_Master) computer, including the [GEM](/source/Graphics_Environment_Manager) windowing system.<ref>{{cite web | url=http://www.g7jjf.com/master_512.htm | title=Master 512 }}</ref>
