# Beaussac

**Beaussac** (bosak; [Limousin](/source/Limousin_dialect): *Baussat*) is a former [commune](/source/Communes_of_France) in the [Dordogne](/source/Dordogne) [department](/source/Departments_of_France) in [Nouvelle-Aquitaine](/source/Nouvelle-Aquitaine) [region](/source/Regions_of_France) in southwestern France. On 1 January 2017, it was merged into the new commune [Mareuil en Périgord](/source/Mareuil_en_P%C3%A9rigord).[2]

The community is located in the [Périgord Limousin Regional Nature Park](/source/Parc_naturel_r%C3%A9gional_P%C3%A9rigord_Limousin).

## History

On [Cassini's](/source/C%C3%A9sar-Fran%C3%A7ois_Cassini_de_Thury) early map of France between 1756 and 1789, the village is identified as the Beaussat. In 1793, it is Baussac and in 1801, it is back to Beaussat.[3]

## Geography

The [Lizonne](/source/Lizonne) forms the commune's southern border. The stream of Beaussac (*ruisseau de Beaussac*), a tributary of the Lizonne, forms the commune's southeastern border and part of the commune's southwestern border, separating it from [Puyrenier](/source/Puyrenier) and [Rudeau-Ladosse](/source/Rudeau-Ladosse). The town is located 34.1 kilometres (21.2 mi) southeast of [Angoulême](/source/Angoul%C3%AAme), the largest nearby city.

- [Alain de Monéys](/source/Hautefaye#Killing_of_Alain_de_Monéys) – member of the city council and first Deputy Mayor of Beaussac. Monéys was [killed](/source/The_Hautefaye_case) in 1870 by villagers in [Hautefaye](/source/Hautefaye), after his report of the [Franco-Prussian War](/source/Franco-Prussian_War) was perceived to support the enemy.
