**Bate** ([Ancient Greek](/source/Ancient_Greek_language): Βατή) was a [deme](/source/Deme) of [ancient Attica](/source/Ancient_Attica). The deme housed a large part of the [Eteobutadae](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eteobutadae&action=edit&redlink=1) family, a religious clan claiming descent from the hero [Bute](/source/Bute_(Greek_mythology)) and named the priests of [Poseidon](/source/Poseidon) and the priestess of [Athena](/source/Athena). Its site is tentatively located at modern [Ampelokipoi, Athens](/source/Ampelokipoi%2C_Athens), northeast of the [Acropolis](/source/Acropolis_of_Athens).[1][2]
