**Bascom** (/ˈbæskəm/ BAS-kəm[2]) is a [census-designated place](/source/Census-designated_place) in western [Hopewell Township, Seneca County, Ohio](/source/Hopewell_Township,_Seneca_County,_Ohio).[1] It has a [post office](/source/Post_office) with the [ZIP code](/source/ZIP_code) 44809 and hosts [Hopewell-Loudon High School](/source/Hopewell-Loudon_High_School).[3] The community is located at the intersection of State Routes [18](/source/Ohio_State_Route_18) and [635](/source/Ohio_State_Route_635) east of [Fostoria](/source/Fostoria,_Ohio). The population was 397 at the [2020 census](/source/2020_United_States_census).

## History

Bascom was laid out in 1837.[4] The community derives its name from Scott & Bascom, publishers of *[The Ohio State Journal](/source/The_Ohio_State_Journal)*.[5][6] A post office called Bascom has been in operation since 1850.[7]
