# Bas Nooij

**Sebastiaan Nooij** (born November 26, 1987) is a Dutch former [baseball](/source/Baseball) player. He was a [catcher](/source/Catcher) for the Netherlands national team in the [2013 World Baseball Classic](/source/2013_World_Baseball_Classic) and other international tournaments and played in the Dutch and Australian leagues.

Nooij began playing in the [Honkbal Hoofdklasse](/source/Honkbal_Hoofdklasse), the Dutch league, for [Amsterdam Pirates](/source/Amsterdam_Pirates) in 2006.[1] He went to the United States to play [college baseball](/source/College_baseball) at [Lower Columbia College](/source/Lower_Columbia_College) in 2007 and 2008,[2][3] then [Hawaii Pacific University](/source/Hawaii_Pacific_University) in 2009 and 2010.[4][5] He also returned to the Netherlands to play baseball in 2009.[1][6]

Nooij first joined the [Netherlands national baseball team](/source/Netherlands_national_baseball_team) as a [bullpen catcher](/source/Bullpen_catcher) during the [2009 World Port Tournament](/source/2009_World_Port_Tournament). His first playing appearance was ahead of the [2010 Haarlem Baseball Week](/source/2010_Haarlem_Baseball_Week).[1] He was a backup catcher for the [2011 Baseball World Cup](/source/2011_Baseball_World_Cup), batting 0-for-2 over 4 games.[7] He was added to the roster for the [2013 World Baseball Classic](/source/2013_World_Baseball_Classic) after [Spencer Kieboom](/source/Spencer_Kieboom) was injured,[8] again posting an 0-for-2 line.[9] He played in the Hoofdklasse for Amsterdam through the [2015 season](/source/2015_Honkbal_Hoofdklasse_season), then played in the [Australian Baseball League](/source/Australian_Baseball_League) through the [2020–21 season](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_Australian_Baseball_League_season).[9][10][11]
