**Barver** is a municipality in the [district of Diepholz](/source/Diepholz_(district)), [Lower Saxony](/source/Lower_Saxony), [Germany](/source/Germany).

## Geography

Barver is located midway between [Bremen](/source/Bremen) (54 km to the north-north-east) and [Osnabrück](/source/Osnabr%C3%BCck) (52 km to the south-west), northeast of the [Dümmer](/source/D%C3%BCmmer_Nature_Park) and [Rehden Geest Moor](/source/Rehden_Geest_Moor) Nature Parks and south of the [Wildeshausen Geest](/source/Wildeshausen_Geest) Nature Park. The village lies east of the Kellenberg ridge (77 m) and on the west bank of the [Wagenfelder Aue](/source/Wagenfelder_Aue), a south-eastern tributary of the [Hunte](/source/Hunte).

## History

The first written reference to Barver dates from 1219.

## Town twinning

Barver has been twinned with the [French](/source/France) [commune](/source/Communes_of_France) of [Lezay](/source/Lezay) since August 1973.
