**Barak Thomas "Barry" Littlefield** (June 16, 1871 – June 14, 1936) was an [American-born](/source/United_States) [Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame](/source/Canadian_Horse_Racing_Hall_of_Fame) [Thoroughbred](/source/Thoroughbred) [racehorse trainer](/source/Horse_trainer).

From a Canadian mother, he was born in [Preakness](/source/Preakness%2C_New_Jersey) in what is now [Wayne](/source/Wayne%2C_New_Jersey), [New Jersey](/source/New_Jersey), where his American father [Charles Stuart Littlefield](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Charles_S._Littlefield&action=edit&redlink=1) (1833–1915), was employed by [Milton Holbrook Sanford's](/source/Milton_H._Sanford) [Preakness Stables](/source/Preakness_Stud). His father worked as a [jockey](/source/Jockey) in [Toronto](/source/Toronto) and is also an inductee of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame who won the first ever edition of the [Queen's Plate](/source/Queen's_Plate) in 1860 and again in 1862 and as a trainer, won the [1885 Preakness Stakes](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=1885_Preakness_Stakes&action=edit&redlink=1). His brother, [Fred Littlefield](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fred_Littlefield&action=edit&redlink=1), was a [jockey](/source/Jockey) who won the [1888 Preakness Stakes](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=1888_Preakness_Stakes&action=edit&redlink=1). Nicknamed Barry, his father named him after a close friend, [Major Barak G. Between 1902 and 1917, Barry Littlefield trained for the highly successful racing stable owned by the [Waterloo, Ontario](/source/Waterloo%2C_Ontario) [distilling](/source/Distillation) magnate, [Joseph E. Seagram](/source/Joseph_E._Seagram). Littlefield was a multiple winner of every top Canadian [flat race](/source/Flat_racing) of his era including five editions of the country's most prestigious event, the [King's Plate](/source/King's_Plate) (Queen's Plate).

After retiring from racing, Barry Littlefield returned to be near family members in his native New Jersey where he died in 1936. In 2000, he was inducted into the [Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame](/source/Canadian_Horse_Racing_Hall_of_Fame).
