# Barron Lake

**Barron Lake** is a [lake](/source/Lake) in southeastern [Labrador](/source/Labrador) near [Sandwich Bay](/source/Sandwich_Bay_(Newfoundland_and_Labrador)), [Canada](/source/Canada). It covers just under 20 km2 (7.7 sq mi) and is at an elevation of 117 m (384 ft).[2] The lake is located in the 13H12 [NTS zone](/source/National_Topographic_System).[1]

Barron River flows out of the lake and joins with [North River](/source/North_River_(Sandwich_Bay)) about 20 km (12 mi) to the north. The [Mealy Mountains](/source/Mealy_Mountains) surround the lake, which is also a part of the [Mealy Mountains National Park Reserve](/source/Mealy_Mountains_National_Park_Reserve).[3]

## Geology

The lake is surrounded by late-Labradorian [granitoid](/source/Granitoid) [intrusions](/source/Intrusion) (dated 1660-1600 ma): [megacrystic](/source/Megacryst)/[porphyritic](/source/Porphyritic) [granite](/source/Granite) to [granodiorite](/source/Granodiorite); early-Labradorian [granitoid](/source/Granitoid) and associated rocks (dated 1678-1671 ma): foliated to gneissic granite and [alkali feldspar granite](/source/Alkali_feldspar_granite), foliated to gneissic [syenite](/source/Syenite), [alkali feldspar](/source/Alkali_feldspar) syenite and alkali feldspar granite, and compositionally equivalent well-banded [gneiss](/source/Gneiss); and pre-Labradorian [supracrustal rocks](/source/Supracrustal_rock) (dated 1800-1770 ma): [pelitic](/source/Pelitic) [schist](/source/Schist) and gneiss, quartz-feldspar [psammitic](/source/Psammite) schist and gneiss, and [metasedimentary](/source/Metasedimentary) [diatexite](/source/Diatexite).[4]
