==Career==
After a year of study at the [Paris Conservatoire](/source/Paris_Conservatoire), where his teachers included Charles Bataille, Barnolt made his debut at the [Folies-Marigny](/source/Th%C3%A9%C3%A2tre_Marigny) and further appearances at the Fantaisies-Parisiennes (1866) where he began to take on roles in the [trial](/source/Antoine_Trial) repertoire.<ref name ="Martin">Martin J. Barnolt made his debut at the [Opéra-Comique](/source/Op%C3%A9ra-Comique) on 23 July 1870 as Dandolo in ''[Zampa](/source/Zampa)'' and went on to become one of the "most useful and faithful servants of the Opéra-Comique".<ref name="Soubies">Soubies A, Malherbe C. Flammarion, Paris, 1893.</ref> He sang Remendado in the premiere of ''[Carmen](/source/Carmen)'' and returned to sing this role at the Opéra-Comique revivals of 1883,<ref>According to Soubies & Malherbe he sang in every performance of the first hundred of ''Carmen'' at the Salle Favart.</ref> 1891, and 1898. He was on-stage singing Fréderic in [Thomas](/source/Ambroise_Thomas)' ''[Mignon](/source/Mignon)'' the night of the fire at the Salle Favart on 25 May 1887.<ref name="Wolff">Wolff S.
