# Barnes, Alabama

**Barnes**, also known as **Barnes Cross Roads** or **Burns**, is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area) in [Dale County](/source/Dale_County,_Alabama), [Alabama](/source/Alabama), United States. Barnes is located on [Alabama State Route 123](/source/Alabama_State_Route_123), 4.6 miles (7.4 km) south-southeast of [Ariton](/source/Ariton,_Alabama).

## History

A post office operated under the name Barnes Cross Roads from 1844 to 1895.[2]

Company B (known as "The Dale County Grays") of the [33rd Regiment Alabama Infantry](/source/33rd_Regiment_Alabama_Infantry) was partially made up of men from Barnes.[3] A portion of the [15th Regiment Alabama Infantry](/source/15th_Regiment_Alabama_Infantry) also came from Barnes.[4]
