# Baril Peak

**Baril Peak** is located on the border of [Alberta](/source/Alberta) and [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia) on the [Continental Divide](/source/Continental_Divide_of_the_Americas). It was named in 1918 after Conrad M.L. Baril, a Dominion surveyor killed in World War I.[1][2][3]

The mountain is composed of [sedimentary rock](/source/Sedimentary_rock) laid down during the [Precambrian](/source/Precambrian) to [Jurassic](/source/Jurassic) periods. Formed in shallow seas, this sedimentary rock was pushed east and over the top of younger rock during the [Laramide orogeny](/source/Laramide_orogeny).[4]
