# Barapind

**Jarpal**, or **Bara Pind** ([Punjabi](/source/Punjabi_language), ), is a village of [Zafarwal Tehsil](/source/Zafarwal_Tehsil), [Narowal District](/source/Narowal_District), in [Punjab](/source/Punjab,_Pakistan), [Pakistan](/source/Pakistan). It is located in the northeastern corner of Punjab and is geographically situated at 75E and 32N. Bara Pind is the birthplace of [Punjabi](/source/Punjabi_language) poet [Shiv Kumar Batalvi](/source/Shiv_Kumar_Batalvi).

## History

The Battle of Jarpal Barapind or the [Battle of Basantar](/source/Battle_of_Basantar) (December 4–16, 1971) was one of the vital battles fought in this village as part of the [Indo-Pakistani War of 1971](/source/Indo-Pakistani_War_of_1971) in the eastern sector of Pakistan.[1] Before the [partition of India](/source/Partition_of_India) in 1947, its name was Bara Pind Lohtian.
