Community and governance center in the Philippines

Barangay hall in [Balangkas, Valenzuela City](/source/Balangkas%2C_Valenzuela_City)

A **barangay hall** is the [seat of government](/source/Seat_of_government) for a [barangay](/source/Barangay), the lowest elected [administrative division of the Philippines](/source/Administrative_division_of_the_Philippines), below that of a [city](/source/Cities_of_the_Philippines) or [municipality](/source/Municipalities_of_the_Philippines). It serves as the office of the [barangay captain](/source/Barangay_captain) and meeting place for the [Sangguniang Barangay](/source/Sangguniang_Barangay).[1] These officers' names, pictures and responsibilities are usually displayed in the hall.[2] The hall can be considered the counterpart to its municipality's [municipal hall](/source/Town_hall).[3]

The barangay hall also serves as a local [community center](/source/Community_center), often providing space for both permanent and temporary services and events. The barangay's [day care center](/source/Day_care_center) and office space for the [tanods](/source/Tanod) and the [barangay health workers](/source/Barangay_health_worker) are often located there. [Medical missions](/source/Medical_mission), religious services, [fiestas](/source/Festival), and sports contests are often held near or next to the barangay hall.
