The '''Bantam River''' is a two-part, southward-flowing stream located in northwest [Connecticut](/source/Connecticut) in the [United States](/source/United_States). The full river comprises two streams that flow into and out of [Bantam Lake](/source/Bantam_Lake) and that are referred to as Bantam Lake Inlet and Bantam Lake Outlet.<ref name=maccracken/> The two sections of the river enter and leave Bantam Lake at points approximately {{convert|2800|ft}} apart on the lake's north shore. The river drains an area of more than {{convert|25000|acre}} in the [towns](/source/New_England_town) of [Goshen](/source/Goshen%2C_Connecticut), [Litchfield](/source/Litchfield%2C_Connecticut), [Morris](/source/Morris%2C_Connecticut), and [Washington](/source/Washington%2C_Connecticut). Its total course is approximately {{convert|18|mi}} in length. The river rises in the marsh area north of the Litchfield Reservoir and empties into the [Shepaug River](/source/Shepaug_River).<ref name=maccracken/> It forms the southern boundary of [Mount Tom State Park](/source/Mount_Tom_State_Park).<ref name=DEEPmap/>
