**Bangor Marina** is the largest [marina](/source/Marina) in Northern Ireland. It opened in 1989 on the southern shores of [Belfast Lough](/source/Belfast_Lough), close to the [Irish Sea](/source/Irish_Sea) cruising routes.[1] The marina has become well known for providing a berth in the centre of [Bangor](/source/Bangor%2C_Ireland). It has also been awarded Five Anchors by the [Yachting Harbour Association](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Yachting_Harbour_Association&action=edit&redlink=1).

Also based at the Marina are the Marine Court Hotel, [HM Coast Guard](/source/HM_Coast_Guard)'s Marine Rescue Sub Centre and the [Royal National Lifeboat Institution](/source/Royal_National_Lifeboat_Institution)'s [Atlantic 85-class lifeboat](/source/Atlantic_85-class_lifeboat) *Jessie Hillyard*.
