**Bang Waek** ([Thai](/source/Thai_language): บางแวก, pronounced [\[bāːŋ wɛ̂ːk\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Thai)) is a *[khwaeng](/source/Khwaeng)* (sub-district) of [Phasi Charoen District](/source/Phasi_Charoen_District), [Bangkok](/source/Bangkok)'s [Thonburi](/source/Thonburi) side. The subdistrict contains 11 [administrative villages](/source/Tambon).[2]

## History

It is named after [Khlong](/source/Khlong) Bang Waek, that runs through the area. It is a [tributary](/source/Tributary) of [Khlong Chak Phra](/source/Khlong_Chak_Phra) and flows into the [Khlong Bangkok Noi](/source/Khlong_Bangkok_Noi).[3]

In the early [Rattanakosin period](/source/Rattanakosin_period), Khlong Bang Waek and its basin considered as the tip of betel large market [Talat Phlu](/source/Talat_Phlu), which is in [Thon Buri District](/source/Thon_Buri_District).[4]

## Geography

Bang Waek can be considered as a northern part of the district, with total area of 2.29 km2 (0.88 mi2).[2]

Neighboring subdistricts are (from north clockwise): [Bang Chueak Nang](/source/Bang_Chueak_Nang) of Taling Chan District, Khuha Sawan, [Bang Chak](/source/Bang_Chak%2C_Phasi_Charoen) and Bang Duan with Khlong Khwang in the same district.[5]

The prominent local temple Wat Bang Waek is in Khuha Sawan Sub-district.[3]
