***Balsfjorden*** ([Norwegian](/source/Norwegian_language)) or ***Báhccavuotna*** ([Northern Sami](/source/Northern_Sami_language))[1] is a [fjord](/source/Fjord) in [Troms](/source/Troms) county, [Norway](/source/Norway). The 57-kilometre (35 mi) long fjord runs through [Balsfjord Municipality](/source/Balsfjord_Municipality) and [Tromsø Municipality](/source/Troms%C3%B8_Municipality). It branches off the [Tromsøysundet](/source/Troms%C3%B8ysundet) [strait](/source/Strait) just south of the [city of Tromsø](/source/Troms%C3%B8_(city)) and it flows in a north–south direction, ranging from 2 to 7 kilometres (1.2 to 4.3 mi) wide. The [European route E8](/source/European_route_E8) highway follows most of the eastern shore of the fjord and the [European route E6](/source/European_route_E6) highway runs along the southern end of the fjord. The village of [Storsteinnes](/source/Storsteinnes) lies along the southwestern coast of the fjord and the village of [Nordkjosbotn](/source/Nordkjosbotn) lies at the southeastern end of the fjord.[2]
