On 15 August 2011, it was declared a [district](/source/district). Baloda Bazar is a large producer of [cement](/source/cement), as there are many [cement plants](/source/Cement_plant) including [Ambuja Cements](/source/Ambuja_Cements), Rawan Cement Works, Nuvoco Cement Sonadih, Nu Vista Cement Risda, [Shree Cement](/source/Shree_Cement) Khapradih, [UltraTech Cement](/source/UltraTech_Cement) Hirmi, UltraTech Cement Rawan, and Ultratech Cement Kukurdih.  The geographical location of Baloda Bazar town is situated between 21.300 54′ to 31.450 14′ north latitude and 42.020 17′ to 82.290 07′ east longitude at an altitude of 270 m above sea level. The boundary of Baloda Bazar district situated in Raipur division touches Bemetara, Mungeli, Bilaspur, Janjgir, Sarangarh – Bilaigarh, Mahasamund and Raipur districts. According to the popular legend regarding the naming of Baloda Bazar, earlier traders from states like Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Orissa, Berar etc. used to gather in the Bhainsa Pasara of the town to buy and sell bulls and buffaloes (Boda). == History ==
From 1854 to 1864, during the [British Raj](/source/British_Raj), Baloda Bazar was incorporated within the [Raipur district](/source/Raipur_district). Subsequently, in 1864, the region was transferred to the [Bilaspur district](/source/Bilaspur_district%2C_Chhattisgarh). Due to administrative challenges, British officials elevated the status of Baloda Bazar to that of a [district](/source/district) in 1903, relocating the [Tehsil](/source/Tehsil) headquarters from [Simga](/source/Simga) to Baloda Bazar. Since then, the development blocks of Simga, [Bhatapara](/source/Bhatapara), Baloda Bazar, [Palari](/source/Palari%2C_Madhya_Pradesh), [Kasdol](/source/Kasdol), and [Bilaigarh](/source/Bilaigarh) have been included within its jurisdiction. In 1982, these areas were designated as separate [tehsils](/source/Tehsil). From an administrative perspective, the British established a [rest house](/source/rest_house), [church](/source/Church_(building)), [hospital](/source/hospital), and residence in the village of Parsabhader ([mission](/source/Mission_(religious))), located 2 kilometres from Baloda Bazar. In 1920, the [Panchayat](/source/Panchayat) was instituted in Baloda Bazar following the implementation of the Sanitation Act. The town has two government colleges, one [polytechnic college](/source/Institute_of_technology), a government-run high school and over 50 private [educational institutions](/source/Educational_institution). Baloda Bazar has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 57% of the males and 43% of females literate. 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
