It is located about 14 kilometres (9 mi) north–west of [Mullingar](/source/Mullingar). Ballinalack is one of 15 townlands of the [civil parish](/source/Civil_parishes_in_Ireland) of [Leny](/source/Leny_(civil_parish)) in the [barony](/source/Barony_(Ireland)) of [Corkaree](/source/Corkaree) in the [Province](/source/Provinces_of_Ireland) of [Leinster](/source/Leinster). The townland covers 151 acres (0.61 km2). The [River Inny](/source/River_Inny%2C_Westmeath) meanders past forming the western boundary of the townland. The neighbouring townlands are: [Cappagh](/source/Cappagh%2C_County_Westmeath) to the north, [Carrick](/source/Carrick%2C_Lackan) and [Grange](/source/Grange%2C_Lackan) to the east, [Cullenhugh](/source/Cullenhugh) and [Glebe](/source/Glebe%2C_Leny) to the south and [Joanstown](/source/Joanstown) to the west.[4][5] In the [1911 census of Ireland](/source/Census_of_Ireland%2C_1911) there were 24 houses[6][7] and 105 inhabitants[8] in the townland, mostly centred in the village.
