**Balintraid** ([Scottish Gaelic](/source/Scottish_Gaelic_language): *Baile na Tràghad*) is an industrial settlement, which was built largely in the 1970s with the growth of the [North Sea oil](/source/North_Sea_oil) industry in [Scotland](/source/Scotland), lies on the north east corner of [Nigg Bay](/source/Nigg_Bay), in the [Cromarty Firth](/source/Cromarty_Firth) in [Ross-shire](/source/Ross-shire), [Scottish Highlands](/source/Scottish_Highlands) and is in the [Scottish](/source/Scotland) council area of [Highland](/source/Highland_Council_area).[1] Balintraid pier - probably the oldest pier on the Cromarty Firth, was built by [Thomas Telford](/source/Thomas_Telford) in 1824.

The village of [Invergordon](/source/Invergordon) lies less than 1 miles to the west, with the village of [Barbaraville](/source/Barbaraville) 1 mile to the west.
