**Balatun** (Sr-cyrl: Балатун) is a small village located north of the city of [Bijeljina](/source/Bijeljina) in [Republika Srpska](/source/Republika_Srpska), [Bosnia and Herzegovina](/source/Bosnia_and_Herzegovina).

According to the 2013 census, its population was 1,286.[1]

## History

On 24 and 25 September 1992, 22 [Bosniaks](/source/Bosniaks) including seven children were removed from their homes in the village of [Bukreš](/source/Bukre%C5%A1) and taken to Balatun where they were killed and thrown into the [Drina](/source/Drina) river.[2]

## Notable people

Balatun is the birthplace of [Slobodan Pejić](/source/Slobodan_Peji%C4%87), a Bosnian painter and sculptor.
