**Balangan Regency** is one of the [regencies](/source/Regencies_of_Indonesia) in the [Indonesian](/source/Indonesia) [province](/source/Provinces_of_Indonesia) of [South Kalimantan](/source/South_Kalimantan). It was created on 25 February 2003 from what were previously the eastern districts of [North Hulu Sungai Regency](/source/North_Hulu_Sungai_Regency). It now covers an area of 1,828.51 km2, and had a population of 112,430 at the 2010 Census[2] and 130,355 at the 2020 Census;[3] the official estimate as of mid-2024 was 138,950 (consisting of 70,480 males and 68,480 females).[1] The capital is the town of [Paringin](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Paringin&action=edit&redlink=1).

## Administrative districts

Balangan Regency consists of eight [districts](/source/Districts_of_Indonesia) (*kecamatan*), tabulated below with their areas and population totals from the 2010 Census,[2] and 2020 Census,[3] together with the official estimates for mid-2024.[1] The table also includes the location of the district administrative centres, the number of [administrative villages](/source/Administrative_village) in each district (a total of 154 rural *desa* and 3 urban *kelurahan*), and its postal codes.
