**Balș** (Romanian pronunciation: [\[balʃ\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Romanian) [ⓘ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ro-Bal%C8%99.ogg)) is a town in [Olt County](/source/Olt_County), [Oltenia](/source/Oltenia), [Romania](/source/Romania). The town administers three villages: Corbeni, Româna, and Teiș.

## Geography

## Etymology

There are three hypotheses about the town's name:

1. The locality was named after the Balșița brook.

1. The name comes from the [Turkish](/source/Turkish_language) word "Baliş" (honey), as there is a large [apiculture](/source/Apiculture) area there.
