**Bahik** ([Persian](/source/Persian_language): بهيك)[a] is a neighborhood in the village of [Zula Bahik](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zula_Bahik&action=edit&redlink=1)[4] in [Chahriq Rural District](/source/Chahriq_Rural_District) of [Kuhsar District](/source/Kuhsar_District) in [Salmas County](/source/Salmas_County), [West Azerbaijan](/source/West_Azerbaijan_province) province, [Iran](/source/Iran).

## History

The "Village of Bahik" is a protocol signed in [Constantinople](/source/Constantinople) in 1913 which drew most of the modern Turkey-Iran border. The agreement which was signed in the presence of [Iranian](/source/Qajar_Iran), [Ottoman](/source/Ottoman_Empire), [Russian](/source/Russian_Empire), and [British](/source/British_Empire) delegates stipulated that the village of Bahik, in addition to a number of others, remain as a part of Persia, modern day Iran.[5]

After the 2006 National Census, Bahik was merged with the village of [Zula](/source/Zula%2C_Iran) to form the new village of [Zula Bahik](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zula_Bahik&action=edit&redlink=1).[4]

## Demographics

### Ethnicity

The village's inhabitants are mainly [Kurds](/source/Kurds), particularly those of the Deri tribe who have lived here for more than five-centuries.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

### Population

At the time of the 2006 census, Bahik's population was 281 in 56 households,[2] when it was a village in [Chahriq Rural District](/source/Chahriq_Rural_District).[6]

## Location

The village is located on the outskirts of the Iran-Turkey border and has, for centuries, served as a passage between [Iran](/source/Iran) and [Turkey](/source/Turkey). The village is located approximately 50 km northwest of the provincial capital of [Urmia](/source/Urmia).
