**Bagerhat-3** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh). The current [Member of Parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament) in this constituency is [Shaikh Faridul Islam](/source/Shaikh_Faridul_Islam) of [Bangladesh Nationalist Party](/source/Bangladesh_Nationalist_Party).

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Mongla](/source/Mongla_Upazila) and [Rampal](/source/Rampal_Upazila) upazilas, as well as the [Port of Mongla](/source/Port_of_Mongla), integrating these areas within a single administrative and electoral boundary.[1][2][3]

## History

The constituency was created in 1984 from a Khulna constituency when the former Khulna District was split into three districts: [Bagerhat](/source/Bagerhat_District), [Khulna](/source/Khulna_District), and [Satkhira](/source/Satkhira_District).

### Elections in the 2010s

To run for mayor of [Khulna](/source/Khulna), Talukder Abdul Khaleque resigned from parliament on 10 April 2018.[7] Habibun Nahar, his wife, was elected unopposed on 4 June, as she was the only candidate in the by-election scheduled for later that month.[8]

Talukder Abdul Khaleque was elected unopposed in the [2014 general election](/source/2014_Bangladeshi_general_election) after opposition parties withdrew their candidacies in a boycott of the election.[9]
