# Badvel Assembly constituency

**Badvel** is a [Scheduled Caste](/source/Scheduled_Castes_and_Scheduled_Tribes) reserved constituency in [YSR Kadapa district](/source/Kadapa_district) of [Andhra Pradesh](/source/Andhra_Pradesh) that elects representatives to the [Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly](/source/Andhra_Pradesh_Legislative_Assembly) in [India](/source/India).[1] It is one of the seven assembly segments of [Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency](/source/Kadapa_Lok_Sabha_constituency).

[Dasari Sudha](/source/Dasari_Sudha) is the current [MLA](/source/Member_of_the_Legislative_Assembly_(India)) of the constituency, having won the 2021 by-election from [YSR Congress Party](/source/YSR_Congress_Party) after the death of the incumbent MLA [Gunthoti Venkata Subbaiah](/source/Gunthoti_Venkata_Subbaiah) from YSR Congress Party, having won the [2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election](/source/2019_Andhra_Pradesh_Legislative_Assembly_election).[2] As of 25 March 2019, there are a total of 204,618 electors in the constituency. The constituency was established in 1951, as per the *Delimitation Orders (1951)*.

### 2021 by-election

The death of sitting MLA [Gunthoti Venkata Subbaiah](/source/Gunthoti_Venkata_Subbaiah) necessitated the by-election for Badvel Assembly constituency.[3] The [Election Commission of India](/source/Election_Commission_of_India) announced that an election would take place on 28 September 2021.

Sitting party [YSRCP](/source/YSR_Congress_Party) decided to field Gunthoti Venkata Subbaiah's wife, Dr. [Dasari Sudha](/source/Dasari_Sudha).[4]

Results were declared on November 2. Dr. [Dasari Sudha](/source/Dasari_Sudha) of YSRCP won the election with a majority of 90,089 votes.[5]
