The north slope of Babylon Hill, on the A30

**Babylon Hill** ([grid reference](/source/Ordnance_Survey_National_Grid) [ST583162](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Babylon_Hill&params=50.943722_N_2.594913_W_region:GB_scale:25000)) in [Dorset](/source/Dorset) is a 2.2 [hectare](/source/Hectare) [geological Site of Special Scientific Interest](/source/Geological_Site_of_Special_Scientific_Interest) designated in 1977.[1]

It was also the site of a minor skirmish, the [Battle of Babylon Hill](/source/Battle_of_Babylon_Hill), during the [English Civil War](/source/English_Civil_War), which resulted in the [Earl of Bedford](/source/Earl_of_Bedford)'s [Roundheads](/source/Roundheads) forcing back Sir [Ralph Hopton](/source/Ralph_Hopton)'s [Cavaliers](/source/Cavaliers) to [Sherborne](/source/Sherborne).[2]
