**Babu Antony** (born 22 February)[1] is an [Indian-American](/source/Indian-American) actor and [martial artist](/source/Martial_artist), who works primarily in [Malayalam cinema](/source/Malayalam_cinema). He has also acted in several [Tamil](/source/Tamil_cinema), [Telugu](/source/Telugu_cinema), [Kannada](/source/Kannada_cinema), [Sinhalese](/source/Sinhala_cinema), [Hindi](/source/Bollywood) and English films. He started his career doing antagonistic roles and progressed to supporting and leading roles as well. Babu owns a [mixed martial art](/source/Mixed_martial_art) academy in [Houston](/source/Houston).[2]

He made his debut in [Bharathan](/source/Bharathan)'s *Chilampu* (1986). His career highlights include *[Vaishali](/source/Vaishali_(film))* (1988), *[Aparahnam](/source/Aparahnam)* (1991) and *[Uppukandam Brothers](/source/Uppukandam_Brothers)* (1993).[3]

## Career

Early in his career, he started making appearances in roles like *Chilambu*, *[Mizhineerppoovukal](/source/Mizhineerppoovukal)* (1986) in [Malayalam](/source/Malayalam). He made a mark through [Fazil](/source/Fazil_(director))'s 1986 thriller *[Poovinu Puthiya Poonthennal](/source/Poovinu_Puthiya_Poonthennal)*. The film was remade into [Tamil](/source/Tamil_cinema), [Telugu](/source/Telugu_cinema), [Kannada](/source/Kannada_cinema) and [Hindi](/source/Bollywood). Babu reprised his role in all five versions. He made his debut by playing an antagonist in [Bharathan](/source/Bharathan)'s *[Chilambu](/source/Chilambu)* (1987).

In 1987, he appeared for its debut in Tamil cinema with [Sathyaraj](/source/Sathyaraj) in *[Poovizhi Vasalile](/source/Poovizhi_Vasalile)* and then *[Makkal En Pakkam](/source/Makkal_En_Pakkam)*. Later with [Kamal Haasan](/source/Kamal_Haasan)'s *[Vrutham](/source/Vrutham)* (1987) in Malayalam and *[Per Sollum Pillai](/source/Per_Sollum_Pillai)* in Tamil. With [Nizhalgal Ravi](/source/Nizhalgal_Ravi), he acted in a horror film, *[Veendum Lisa](/source/Veendum_Lisa)* which were all commercial successes. He also played with [Chiranjeevi](/source/Chiranjeevi) in *[Pasivadi Pranam](/source/Pasivadi_Pranam)* and *[Jebu Donga](/source/Jebu_Donga_(1987_film))* which was later a hit at the box office. He started his career as a villain and later on featured in leading roles with the image of an angry young man.

His debut film in Kannada was *[Shanti Kranti](/source/Shanti_Kranti)* (1991). His movies like *[Aparahnam](/source/Aparahnam)* (1991), *[Gandhari](/source/Gandhari_(film))* (1993), *[Rajadhani](/source/Rajadhani_(1994_film))* (1994), *[Bharanakoodam](/source/Bharanakoodam)* (1994), *[Chantha](/source/Chantha)* (1995), *[Special Squad](/source/Special_Squad_(film))* (1995) and *[Indian Military Intelligence](/source/Indian_Military_Intelligence)* (1995) helped him to build a large audience and fan following for him. Apart from these, he has worked as many different characters such as an ex-terrorist role in Aparahnam, a king's role in *[Vaishali](/source/Vaisali_(film))* (1988), an impecunious man in *Sayahnam* (2000). *[Uppukandam Brothers](/source/Uppukandam_Brothers)* (1993) gave a breakthrough for Babu's career in starring roles.[4]

He made his debut in Hindi cine-industry with the movie *[Hatya](/source/Hatya)* in 1988. ## Personal life

He is married to Evgeniya Antony, who is a Russian American.[5] The couple has two sons, Arthur Antony and Alex Antony.[6] He trains his sons in martial arts and Arthur got his 1st Dan Black Belt in [MMA](/source/Mixed_martial_arts).[7]
