# BLUPF90

The **BLUPF90** family of programs is a statistical software package used in [quantitative genetics](/source/Quantitative_genetics) for [animal](/source/Animal_breeding) and [plant breeding](/source/Plant_breeding).[1][2] It can fit [mixed models](/source/Mixed_model) using [restricted maximum likelihood](/source/Restricted_maximum_likelihood) as well as [Gibbs sampling](/source/Gibbs_sampling) to estimate variance components, and predict breeding values via [best linear unbiased prediction](/source/Best_linear_unbiased_prediction) (BLUP).

Coded in [Fortran](/source/Fortran), it can perform [genomic selection](/source/Genomic_selection) on hundreds of thousands of [genotyped](/source/Genotyping) individuals.[3]

Compiled versions of BLUPF90 are freely available for research, and can be used on Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.[4][5] There also exists an add-on to [R (programming language)](/source/R_(programming_language)).[6]
