{{Short description|Mammalian protein found in Homo sapiens}}
{{Infobox_gene}}
'''Bile acid-CoA:amino acid N-acyltransferase''' is an [enzyme](/source/enzyme) that in humans is encoded by the ''BAAT'' [gene](/source/gene).<ref name="entrez">{{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: BAAT bile acid Coenzyme A: amino acid N-acyltransferase (glycine N-choloyltransferase)| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=570}}</ref>

The protein encoded by this gene is a liver enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of the [bile acid](/source/bile_acid) [moiety](/source/Moiety_(chemistry)) from the [acyl-CoA](/source/acyl-CoA) [thioester](/source/thioester) to either [glycine](/source/glycine) or [taurine](/source/taurine), the second step in the formation of bile acid-[amino acid](/source/amino_acid) [conjugates](/source/Br%C3%B8nsted%E2%80%93Lowry_acid%E2%80%93base_theory) which serve as detergents in the [gastrointestinal tract](/source/gastrointestinal_tract).<ref name="entrez" />
